Burkina Faso, West Africa * New York, NY

Our mission is to celebrate Burkina Faso culture, for the Burkinabè community and beyond. There are 63 ethnic groups in Burkina Faso, all with their own languages, rhythms and dances. More than simply artform, these traditions are a form of communication shared down through the ages.

We aim to fulfil our mission through education, performances and special events. We import handmade, traditional musical instruments from our artisan association in Ouagadougou.

We are proud to regularly partner with other organizations committed to community, creativity, and the African diaspora.

Your patronage makes a difference

L’Association des Jeunes pour le Développement de l'Artisanat (Youth Association for Craft Development) was formed in Burkina Faso in 2010.

Traditional West African musical instruments, handmade by Association members in Ouagadougou, are available for purchase in the USA. For more information please visit our Contact Us page.

Instruments are from local materials such as calabash gourds, cowhide, local wood and horsehair, with modern additions such as machine tuners and pickups for amplification. The group also engages the local community in music and dance.

The association aims to fight poverty through the creation of productive occupations for young people. We wish to help the youth establish themselves in the promising crafts sector and build their skills, capabilities and literacy.

We use sustainable practices in our crafts to conserve the existing flora and fight against desertification. Through cultural exchange we aim to cultivate solidarity with people from all nations.

Thank you for making a purchase that contributes directly to supporting artisans in Burkina Faso.
