AJDA Teega-Wende

L’Association des Jeunes pour le Développement de l'Artisanat (Youth Association for Craft Development) was formed in Burkina Faso in 2010.

The Association aims to fight poverty through the creation of productive occupations for young people. We wish to help the youth establish themselves in the promising crafts sector and build their skills, capabilities and literacy.

We use sustainable practices in our crafts to conserve the existing flora and fight against desertification. Through cultural exchange we aim to cultivate solidarity with people from all nations.

Members of the Association handmake traditional West African musical instruments from local materials such as calabash gourds, cowhide, local wood and horsehair, with modern additions such as machine tuners and pickups for amplification. The group also engages the local community in music and dance.

Association President and Founder Yahaya Kabore is now a NYC resident, and through him these instruments are available for purchase in the USA. For more information please visit our Contact Us page, or shop our online Etsy store.
